Special Issue: Emerging Contaminants
Call for Papers: Emerging Contaminants
Fluorinated Alternatives to Existing PFAS Compounds
Dear Bruno,
Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are ubiquitous and persistent ‘forever’ chemicals in the environment with recognized toxicity and bioaccumulative effects. As legacy compounds are phased out, the recent explosive growth of alternative chemicals is leading to knowledge gaps on presence, fate and biological effects of replacement compounds.

Environmental Science & Technology will publish the Special Issue 'Emerging Contaminants: Fluorinated Alternatives to Existing PFAS Compounds' later this year in partnership with the 2021 FLUOROS Symposium, and invites you to submit your manuscript for inclusion.
This call for papers invites research contributions on the latest multidisciplinary advances on analysis, fate, transport, exposure, modeling, impacts on human and environmental health, remediation and regulatory and policy concerns on alternative and legacy PFAS substances. The editors particularly welcome submissions focusing on the following topics:

  • Characterizing the structural diversity of PFAS alternatives
  • Environmental distribution, bioaccumulation and ecological impacts
  • Transport, transformation, and point-source apportionment
  • Human exposure, epidemiology and toxicological impacts
  • Laboratory and field modeling
  • Remediation and treatment engineering
  • Policy and regulations for PFAS control
  • Innovations in interdisciplinary approaches

Guest Editors:

  • Professor Ian Cousins, Stockholm University, Sweden
  • Professor Jennifer Field, Oregon State University, USA
  • Professor Guibin Jiang, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China
  • Professor Rainer Lohmann, Organizing Committee Chair of the FLUOROS 2021 Symposium, University of Rhode Island, USA
  • Professor Ting Ruan, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China
Author Instructions:

Please indicate that your manuscript is for the Special Issue in your cover letter, and select the Special Issue title: “Emerging Contaminants: Fluorinated Alternatives to Existing PFAS Compounds” during the submission process.

The deadline for submissions is June 8, 2021.
