BIRTH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL

Celebrating Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray's Scientific Legacy

As we celebrate the remarkable contributions of Indian scientists to global research and innovation, we are proud to honour the life and legacy of Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray on his birthday, August 2.

Widely regarded as the Father of Indian Chemistry, Acharya Ray was a pioneering chemist, educator, entrepreneur, and visionary who helped lay the foundation for modern chemical research in India. His landmark discovery of mercurous nitrite, extensive work on inorganic chemistry, and his authorship of A History of Hindu Chemistry established him as one of the most influential scientists of his era. Beyond the laboratory, he founded Bengal Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals, India's first pharmaceutical company, championing scientific self-reliance and innovation.

As a professor and mentor, Acharya Ray inspired generations of scientists and played a pivotal role in building India's scientific ecosystem. His belief that scientific advancement could drive national progress continues to resonate today.

In celebration of his enduring legacy, we invite you to explore a curated collection of impactful articles from ACS journals showcasing cutting-edge research from Indian scientists and research groups who continue to advance the field of chemistry and related disciplines, carrying forward the spirit of discovery that Acharya Ray so passionately embodied.
